Ferrari's first-ever SUV has 715 horsepower and a top speed of 193 mph: See the one-of-a-kind $390,000 Purosangue

Ferrari is known for its low-slung, exotic sports cars. But its latest model rejects that mold for something a bit bigger and more capable.

On Tuesday, the ultra-premium Italian brand took the wraps off of the Purosangue, its very first SUV.

The four-seater will start at 390,000 euros (roughly $390,000) in Italy, but Ferrari hasn't revealed US pricing yet.

The Purosangue is also the first four-door vehicle Ferrari has ever sold.

Ferrari is following in the footsteps of other high-end sports-car brands like Lamborghini, whose Urus SUV has become by far its most popular model since its debut in 2018.

The company insists that the Purosangue isn't any less of a Ferrari than the supercars that came before it, even going so far as to name it "thoroughbred."

And Ferrari won't even call it an SUV, instead referring to it as "a versatile car that melds unparalleled comfort with Ferrari's signature performance and driving pleasure."

To Ferrari's credit, the Purosangue certainly looks unlike anything else on the road.

With a pointy, stretched-out front end and a hatch in the rear, the Purosangue resembles a mashup between a sports car and a small SUV.

Like its more conventional Ferrari stablemates, the Purosangue will pack plenty of punch from a big engine.

Its 6.2-liter V12 should churn out 715 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque, according to Ferrari's estimates.

It'll rip from a standstill to 62 mph in a brief 3.3 seconds, Ferrari says, placing it among the quickest SUVs on the market.

According to Ferrari, it will hit 124 mph in 10.6 seconds on its way to a top speed north of 193 mph.

The Purosangue will come with all-wheel drive to bring extra capability.

It comes standard with a carbon-fiber roof, which Ferrari says reduces overall weight and lowers the vehicle's center of gravity, helping with driving dynamics.

The brand added in unique rear-hinged doors that help passengers get into and out of the rear seats more easily.

These so-called "welcome doors" also allowed Ferrari to keep the Purosangue as compact as possible, it said.

Climb inside and you'll find four independently adjustable seats with heating functions, a first for Ferrari.

In back, the Purosangue offers the most storage of any Ferrari ever, which doesn't come as too much of a surprise.

Up front, the driver and passenger get massaging seats.

The dashboard is nearly symmetrical, featuring a 10.2-inch display in front of the passenger.

There's a similar display behind the steering wheel that displays important driving info, but curiously there's no central touchscreen.

The Purosangue will go on sale in the US late next year and will compete with other high-end SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and Porsche Cayenne.
