There might be more home goods stores on earth than there are grains of sand, but there's one name you should be checking out if your aesthetic falls under modern classics or attainable sophistication — and that would be up-and-coming startup Snowe.
The startup led by Rachel Cohen and Andres Modak essentially makes aspirational, high-end home goods relatively affordable. They use the same premium materials as iconic home brands, but work directly with European factories, sell online, and produce tightly-curated, thoughtful collections which, in turn, allows them to keep costs down.
Snowe executes high-end minimalism for the everyday essentials; sheets only come in four colors, and two of those options are ivory and white. But that's not a bad thing — the items feel sophisticated without falling into the pitfall of stuffy. To me, Snowe is the go-to home goods store for the urbanite who finally wants "nicer" wine glasses, but also doesn't dream of tolerating a primarily dry-clean-only wardrobe yet.
Our Review of Snowe Sateen Sheets
The Sateen Sheets remind me of really nice hotel sheets — crisp, breathable but substantial, and with a slight sheen.
Snowe
For over a year, I've been sleeping on Snowe's Sateen Sheets in Ash Grey (which sadly, has been discontinued since I first got them), and I'm still impressed.
For $225 (Full) to $275 (Cal King), you get the following: a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. The Sateen Sheets are wrinkle-resistant, 400-thread count, and made from 100% long-staple cotton in Portugal. They're also Oeko-Tex certified so they've been tested for safety regulations, and they'll come delivered in a matching sateen envelope for nice and easy storage.
And per the company's policy, you've got 90 days to decide if you love them. If you don't, it'll replace them or refund your purchase.
The price stacks up pretty well against similar startups, though you can definitely find something cheaper if the cost is your main priority. At Brooklinen, you can get the same items for $135 (Twin) to $195 (Cal King). Parachute doesn't include a top sheet automatically, but you'll get a fitted sheet and two pillowcases from $169 (Twin) to $189 (Cal King). If you do add a top sheet, it's $269 to $299 — putting Snowe's sateen in the middle, in terms of expense.
The sheets themselves are smooth, airy, and have the slippery softness of sateen without the full sheen. In my experience, this is one of the Sateen Sheets understated strong suits: the slight sheen catches the light in an elegant way, and it makes my room look a little other-worldly when everything comes together just right in the last dredges of Golden Hour.
They remind me of really nice hotel sheets. They're pretty breathable (at the 400-thread count means they're still decently light), but the material looks substantial. If you like classics, I find Snowe's Sateen Sheets to be one of the more exciting iterations.
Durability
The wrinkle-resistant material isn't immune to slight wrinkling if I leave it in a pile too long after it's been out of the dryer.
Snowe
In person, they look and feel high-end, but they're pretty low-maintenance (i.e., laundry machine friendly and wrinkle-resistant). Sateen is meant to feel more luxe and silky than its crisp Percale counterpart, and Snowe's fit the bill. The company describes them as "buttery" and that's close to the right word — smooth, supple, and silky on the skin. However, I've noticed that, over a year of wear and not-so-gentle washings, they've grown slightly less buttery and silky, but gotten softer allover — though this could have been expedited by washing them with rougher materials (as I do).
But, even with the rough cycles, I haven't noticed any thinning or loose threads. However, while they're in my frequent rotation, but I cycle through about four main sheet sets so I haven't put them to as heavy of use as some people might in the course of a year.
I should also mention that I'm not a dutiful, make-my-bed-every-morning person, and the wrinkle-resistance is an added benefit I didn't expect to be so grateful for — though they'll still wrinkle up if you leave them in a pile for too long after the dryer.
I also noticed that the sheets were easier than others I've used to put on and as a result, I'm not doing the Vitruvian Man to keep everything tucked in. They moved around less during the night too, though that could admittedly be due in part to the fact that I've started sleeping with a weighted blanket and it keeps my restlessness at bay.
The bottom line
Altogether, Snowe's Sateen Sheets are a great option for anyone looking for silky bedding or affordable luxury and elegance. The sheets are relatively affordable compared to other options, and they've got the perks of wrinkle-resistance, a slight sheen without too much luster, and feel fantastic. If you're looking at picking up a set, you're not likely to be disappointed. Just in case, though, you've got 90 days to decide.
