When did America stop dreaming big? On colonizing/exploring Mars and hating on Musk

Nissan? That couldn't design battery packs so they overheat and prematurely die on the Leaf? Only got their second model (Ariya) a couple years ago? Chinese carmakers have only ramped up in the past five years or so Tesla was definitely leading the space for a decade or more. Today, not so...

Consequences of the US 2024 Presidential Election: Global Geopolitics Edition

Norway is also becoming more positive towards EU membership. 40% for, 49% against, improved from 30 / 54 % last august We've never had a majority for membership, and the yes share took a beating during the financial crisis. Started to recover slightly when the war broke out in Ukraine. Iceland...

Indian spice mixes - how to use them?

I guess I'll try Skoops recipe with some Tikka Masala spice mix next, using chicken thighs this time :) Do I throw them in uncooked, or should they be browned first?

Indian spice mixes - how to use them?

I promised an update, and I've now used up the Biryani and Butter Chicken spice mixes, @OrangeCream shared them with some advice by PM https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/16102/chicken-biryani/ https://cafedelites.com/butter-chicken/ Both turned out quite well, the spice was at least not the...

🦄 Immigration and Deportation and related &@$#ery in the Trump Administration

I had an original birth certificate + a passport from when I was a baby. That was not sufficient to renew my passport in my early 20's, I had to also provide pictures to the embassy to show I was the same person as back then :)

Stress test Proxmox setup for minilab

Yeah, today it only has one DIMM (8 GB), so I might was well go unmatched and get a 16 GB for the second slot

Stress test Proxmox setup for minilab

I'll go with the 1 TB drive, not worth trying to sell it and then repurchase a larger drive at a later point :) Laptop only has 1 Nvme slot And yes, I will also try to get some more RAM, want to try to bundle it with another purchase

Stress test Proxmox setup for minilab

Got it down to 7 W power consumption by turning off the screen, so quite efficient :) I'm still not sure if I should stick to the 256 GB drive, or switch to the 1 TB drive. I guess it's a question of how fast I will use up the storage, and if I then can buy a drive for the same amount I sell it...

    USB-C AA/AAA battery chargers?

I also have an IKEA charger and it is not able to charge batteries if the SoC is too low. This can happen if you've had it deplete in e.g., an older Bose noise cancelling headset because you forgot to turn it off Need to bring it to my parents that have a cheap USB-C based charger from Amazon...

Time for some new wifi router hotness?

It worked great! Got a used one for ~30 USD and set up mesh in 2 min :) I also found out that the inner L-shape wall is concrete, so no wonder the signal doesn't propogate too far in the troublesome direction

Time for some new wifi router hotness?

Hm... I wonder if it may be simplest to try to get another Amplifi HD unit for cheap, as the system supports mesh. Then I don't need to set any devices up again :)

Time for some new wifi router hotness?

Thanks, but do newer routers generally have more range? I see the Alien is speced at 3000 sq ft, while the Amplif HD lists 1500 sq ft? Now it seems like people are not happy with the Alien on its Facebook group, so shelving that idea...

Stress test Proxmox setup for minilab

Ok, so I've tried Proxmox on a spare Lenovo L480 laptop that I had, which has an 8th generation Intel CPU, 8 GB RAM and a 250GB SSD drive. I originally thought to buy a mini PC, but this seems to work fine with 10 W consumption, so might as well start out with it while I figure out if I have...

Time for some new wifi router hotness?

I'm considering to upgrade my Ubiquiti Amplifi HD wifi router as I don't get reliable whole home coverage in my new apartment It is 100 square meters (~1000 sq ft), L shaped, with the router near the bend I've been very satisfied with it in my old apartment, it handled some wifi panel heaters...

    Printer and document scanner

May not need a printer yet after all, but I just picked up an old SnapScan S1500M for ~10 USD that seems to work just fine :) It's a very small device compared to a normal laser printer! You can use it with VueScan (~10 USD/month subscription or purchase), and you can download the old SnapScan...

    Printer and document scanner

We're talking printing a couple to 40 pages every month or so, and then scanning batches. Biggest batch will be me digitalizing old notes so I can throw them away :) No plans to scan any photos Good to know Brother is still the best! FYI: If you are confused with the model names, DCP means all...

    Printer and document scanner

I need to buy a printer, and it would also be convenient to have a document scanner Would you get an all-in-one, or is it worth it to buy two different units? I'm thinking an all-in-one is more bulky, and two different means you can stash away one or the other when you don't use it? This would...

When is it time to flee, part three

Income taxes are not that high in Norway in an European setting, it really helps that our "oil fund" funds 20-25% of the annual state budget... One thing to be aware of is that (for better or worse) the wage differences in Norway are relatively small: Higher education pays off, but not to the...
