The Met Gala, which is known as "fashion's biggest night," unfolded at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday.
At the 2024 Met Gala, for which invite-only tickets cost $75,000, the museum was transformed into an enchanted forest for the theme, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."
Celebrities such as Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, and Cardi B made bold fashion statements, and some attendees' looks were so dramatic that they needed a helping hand up the stairs.
Photos show the biggest moments from the event.
The Great Hall of the Metropolitan Museum of Art was a fairytale come to life.
Perfectly in line with the "Sleeping Beauties" theme, the Great Hall was decorated with a giant tree made of wood and fabric, Vogue reported.
"We wanted to create this romantic landscape and environment that felt like you're coming into a magical enchanted forest," said Eaddy Kiernan, a contributing editor at Vogue who helps plan the Met Gala.
Moody green lighting and silkscreen panels with woodlands-inspired imagery completed the vibe for the evening.
Zendaya, one of the co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala, arrived on the red carpet in a dramatic one-shoulder gown.
The Maison Margiela Artisanal outfit by John Galliano featured midnight-blue tulle with iridescent grapes, nailing the "Garden of Time" dress code.
Then, Zendaya unexpectedly reappeared on the red carpet in another show-stopping look.
The "Challengers" star wore a second dress, a vintage Givenchy Haute Couture black gown by John Galliano, and paired it with a floral headpiece.
It took an entire entourage to fluff out Cardi B's giant Met Gala dress.
The rapper's black tulle Windowsen gown billowed over the Metropolitan Museum of Art's famous steps.
Tyla's form-fitting Balmain gown also required her to receive some extra help going up the stairs.
In line with the "Garden of Time" dress code, the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter from South Africa worked with Balmain to create a look inspired by the sand in an hourglass for her Met Gala debut.
Her form-fitting gown required multiple men to carry her up the stairs. She told Access Hollywood, "That's the only way" she'd make it.
Kim Kardashian's waist appeared shockingly small in a custom couture corset by John Galliano.
Kardashian paired the corset, woven from an antique silver brocade, with a sheer skirt embellished with floral pendants.
She's been known to go to extreme measures for her Met Gala looks, wearing a Thierry Mugler dress that required her to employ special breathing techniques in 2019 and losing 16 pounds in three weeks in 2022 to fit into a dress once worn by Marilyn Monroe.
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew made his first public appearance since Congress passed a "TikTok ban" on April 20.
TikTok was the main sponsor of this year's Met Gala, and Shou Zi Chew, an honorary chair of the event, wore Ralph Lauren.
His appearance came just a couple of weeks after Congress passed a bill that would ban TikTok.
Pamela Anderson attended her first Met Gala, breaking her no-makeup streak with beauty by Pat McGrath.
Anderson, who wore an Oscar de la Renta gown and straw headpiece by hat designer Noel Stewart, told British Vogue she wanted her makeup to look "dewy, soft, and ethereal" for the event.
Doja Cat took the "wet look" to a new level.
Doja Cat took a creative approach to the theme by highlighting cotton.
She told Entertainment Tonight, "I know that people are gonna do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most used flower, and it's cotton. And so, I wanted to do a white T-shirt also because a white T-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this and I knew it wasn't going to blend in too much and I don't really like to blend in, so we went with this."
The secret to Doja Cat's wet look: hair gel.
Camila Cabello carried a purse made of ice to symbolize impermanence.
The "Havana" singer accessorized her metallic Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress with a purse turned clutch made of ice that contained a singular rose.
Cabello told Entertainment Tonight, "So, this was actually a purse, and then in the time from the line to now, it has become a clutch."
"The whole thing is kind of like impermanence, and my dress has rips at the end, so it's kind of like it's falling apart as I'm coming up the stairs," she added.
Inside the gala, Ariana Grande surprised the audience with songs from throughout her career like "Into You" and "We Can't Be Friends."
The "Eternal Sunshine" singer was this year's surprise Met Gala performer.
To open, Grande sang "Once Upon a Dream" from Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty" as she was carried through the room before launching into a concert of songs spanning her career, like "Into You," "7 Rings," and "We Can't Be Friends."
Grande closed the night with a duet of "When You Believe" with her "Wicked" costar, Cynthia Erivo.
Thirty dancers, members of the Broadway Inspirational Voices choir, and a costume change helped bring 2023 Tony winner Michael Arden's direction to life.
"working on this performance was an experience i will cherish forever," Grande wrote on Instagram.
AI stole the show on social media with fake renderings of stars like Rihanna at the Met.
Rihanna, Selena Gomez, and Katy Perry were just a few of the highly anticipated stars not in attendance at this year's Gala.
However, AI completely stole the show, giving social media users a glimpse at what could've been with digitally generated images of celebrities in perfectly on-theme looks that even fooled Perry's mom.
