With North Korea and America both refusing to blink first in the ongoing crisis, despot Kim Jong-un has now announced a massive army recruitment programme.

An article in a Pyongyang-based propaganda newspaper today declared already more than 3.5 million people had signed up to fight...

As revealed by Express.co.uk last year, life in the North Korean Army is one of pain, hunger and oppression.

    ---------

With difficulty I can understand why many Germans continued to fight for Nazi Germany until it was beaten into the ground. From Hitler's ascension to power in 1933 to the surrender of France in 1940 Hitler had led the German people to economic and military victories.

Nazi Germany recovered from the Great Depression sooner than the United States did. By the late thirties foreign visitors to Germany reported that one could see that things were getting better. Restaurants and department stores were full. Germans had money to spend for the first time really since the First World War, and they were spending it.

I have difficulty understanding how many North Koreans could support the Kim dynasty. It brought North Korea devastation during the Korean War. Since then it has brought poverty and malnutrition, while the South Koreans prosper. North Koreans who are going hungry must notice that Dictator Kim is fat.

North Koreans must know how much better things are in South Korea.

Yes they do but to mention it means you and/or your family disappear in the night.
Think, if they take foreign nationals like a dumb-ass Yankee college kid & a Canuck minister without worry what must they do to their own people who cannot complain to foreign press?
Yet we still wait & placate them worrying about PRC, drop a few busters and let China know 'Yes we will Nuke your arse & Let Nature start over again to get rid of these arses.'

I would rather lead an army full of enthusiastic volunteers than one full of resentful conscripts looking for the first opportunity to desert, defect, or mutiny.

Absolutely not shootersa. Kim Jong Un has so far at least proven himself to be much more sane, rational, and consistent than Trump. Because Trump is in fact and in deed literally and clinically mentally ill. And he proves that on a daily basis.

Just like he did yesterday. The Trump administration scores a major victory in getting China and Russia to go along with sanctions. And then a story based on anonymous sources says North Korea might be able to miniaturize a nuclear weapon. But there is no mew act of aggression or provocation on the part of North Korea. No nuclear test. No missiles fired. And yet Trump immediately threatens nuclear war. Then he continues to issue more and more aggressive threats. And then tops that off by threatening military intervention in Venezuela.

That is insanity in action. And proof positive that Kim Jong Un is actually more sane and rational than Trump.

Well you sure nailed it. And the real problem is Trump is literally mentally ill suffering from delusions and is totally detached from reality. And Trump proved that again by threatening military intervention in Venezuela and his bonkers phone call yesterday with the Governor of Guam.

But there is some hope in that world leaders are working the phones behind the scenes. And that is especially true about China who are telling Trump to knock it off and back off. But the problem of course is that Trump is not just mentally ill and can't control himself. No one else around him can control him either.

So these are really dangerous times.

I for one am glad Trump is POTUS now. If it were another pussy like we've had before, wed be giving them billions to play nice. Fuck that shit. Time for Lil Kim to be knocked down a few notches.

Horse shit Stumbles. China is the key to shutting down their insane neighbor. Not for them to tell Trump shit. They damn well better get lil Kim chilled or we will. Not about Trump, it is about doing something about what eight years of nothing has caused. Funny how you leftist fucks sat silent while Nobama did nothing and put us in the position we are presently. From the middle east to the Pacific rim, it all falls on previous failure. Trump is handed the problem, all those that sat silent can continue to shut the fuck up. Especially you Fopdoodle, dole sucking maggot.

North Korea: China urges Trump not to worsen situation

China's President Xi Jinping has urged Donald Trump and North Korea to avoid "words and actions" that worsen tensions, state media say.

Mr Trump and North Korea have been exchanging hostile rhetoric, with the US president threatening to rain "fire and fury" on the North.

But China, North Korea's only major ally, has been urging restraint.

A White House statement said the US and China agreed North Korea must stop "provocative and escalatory behaviour".

A statement by North Korea's official KCNA news agency issued on Saturday said the Trump administration "had better talk and act properly," if it did not want "the American empire to meet its tragic doom".

Long-standing tensions over North Korea's nuclear programme worsened when it tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles in July.

The regime was also angered by last week's UN decision to increase economic sanctions against it.

According to Chinese state media, Mr Xi told Mr Trump in a phone call that "all relevant parties" should stop "words and deeds" that would exacerbate the situation.

Mr Xi also stressed China and the US shared "common interests" over denuclearisation and maintaining peace on the Korean peninsula.

A White House statement on the phone call did not mention the apparent plea to the US president.

It stressed the two men enjoyed a close relationship, which would "hopefully lead to a peaceful resolution of the North Korea problem".

President Trump has previously chided China for not reining in North Korea, saying it could do "a lot more".

From 'fire and fury' to 'locked and loaded'
Tuesday: "North Korea, best not make any more threats to the United States," Mr Trump tells reporters. "They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen"

Wednesday: Mr Trump boasts that the US nuclear arsenal is "more powerful than ever"

Thursday: He says that his "fire and fury" warning maybe "wasn't tough enough". Asked what would be tougher than fire and fury, he replies, "you'll see"

Friday: The US president warns that military solutions are "locked and loaded" should North Korea "act unwisely".

North Korea has announced plans to fire missiles near the Pacific territory of Guam, but there is no indication an attack is imminent.

On Friday, Mr Trump issued a fresh threat against North Korea, saying it should expect "big, big trouble" if anything happened to Guam.

But he added: "Hopefully, it will all work out. Nobody loves a peaceful solution better than President Trump, that I can tell you."

Mr Trump also called the governor of Guam on Friday to reassure him that his island was safe.

"We are with you 1,000%," Mr Trump said in the phone call, recorded and posted on YouTube by Governor Eddie Calvo.

Pyongyang has accused Mr Trump of "driving" the Korean peninsula to the "brink of a nuclear war".

Russia said the exchange of threats between Washington and North Korea worried Moscow "very much". Germany has also expressed alarm.

The ball is in Lil Kim's court. Let's see him back up his claim or shut the fuck up. Any attack on Guam would lead to their annihilation. Hopefully the little prick will realize he's not messing with a pussy and put his tail between his legs and crawl back into his hole.

A compromise solution to the Korean crisis and the ongoing Korean problem could have these features:

First, unification of Korea with a democratic government, and elections held under international supervision.

Second, withdraw of American forces from Korea.

Third, destruction of all nuclear weapons in Korea.

    Fourth, Korean neutrality.

Fat Kim would not approve, because he would have to give up his power - unless he could win an election, which is unlikely - a lot of his money, and consequently many of his mistresses.

Nevertheless, these options would be a way to start negotiations. They would be popular with much of the world.

    NBC News 6 April 2017

Despite President Donald Trump's calls for American companies to manufacture their products in the U.S., shipments of his daughter's branded, Chinese-made dresses have continued to land on U.S. shores since he took office, documents reviewed by NBC News show...

Since Election Day, the apparel brand run by Trump's daughter has imported 56 shipments of Ivanka Trump products from China and Singapore, part of a total of 215 shipments from Asia since Jan. 1, 2016...

Shipments of Ivanka Trump-branded clothing headed for the U.S. included handbags; knitted dresses and pullovers; woven dresses and blouses; among other items, according to U.S. Customs data provided by the research firm Panjiva to NBC News. The 56 shipments made since Nov. 8 hailed from Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore.

You raise a good point about China. In my #631 comment I said my proposals should begin negotiations over the future of Korea, and that they would be popular in much of the world. I did not say that everyone would adopt them. However, they would be difficult for China and North Korea to resist.

The proposals I suggested would be a better alternative than the escalating threats between President Trump and Dictator Kim.

After the fall of the Soviet Union Russia did adopt a democratic government.

The sucess of democracy in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea demonstrate that democracy would work in North Korea, and on the mainland of China.

I believe that China will achieve world hegemony by the end of this century. I hope and believe that China will have adopted a democratic government by then.

Trump and his circle are nothing but pretenders to the Presidency, and the sooner his supporters realize this, the better both America, and the world will be.

This is virtually the same demands Kim has to give up his weapons; only he ends up in power when Korea is unified.
It's a great plan, except Kim is not going to give up his throne.

There is no need for the US to soften it's tone with North Korea.

North Korea stands no chance against US, Guam threat is a bluff – Russian general to RT
    Published time: 12 Aug, 2017 01:06 Edited time: 13 Aug, 2017 06:39

North Korea wouldn’t stand a chance against the US if the war of words between the two states escalates into a military conflict, Leonid Ivashov, a political analyst and retired Russian Colonel-General, told RT, urging a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

“It’s a total mismatch,” Ivashov, who currently heads the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, said of the possible confrontation between Washington and Pyongyang.

“The US is a superpower, while North Korea is a small regional player. North Korea can’t compete with America on any level,” he said.

President Donald Trump needs to strengthen his position in Washington, and the American attack on North Korea “can’t be ruled out,” Ivashov said.

According to the retired colonel-general, modern surveillance technologies allow the US to know “the exact location of all missile systems and nuclear production facilities” possessed by Pyongyang.

“The Americans can strike North Korea – its nuclear missile development centers, industrial facilities; try to eliminate everything that North Korea created in terms of medium-range and long-range missiles and nuclear production,” he said.

The American B-1 bombers will be able to inflict significant damage on Pyongyang’s underground nuclear development facilities and missile silos, “taking into account the weakness of the North Korean anti-missile defense,” Ivashov said.

He was also skeptical about Pyongyang’s threats to target the US territory of Guam in case of an attack.

“To some extent, it’s a bluff on the part of North Korea; an attempt to save face and avert the American blow through international rhetoric,” he said.

“The US has a powerful anti-missile defense system off the coast of the Korean Peninsula… which may well intercept Pyongyang’s missiles. The Guam Air Base, which North Korea is planning to attack, is also covered by the US anti-missile defense,” Ivashov added.

Earlier this week, North Korea said that it would fire ballistic missiles in the direction of Guam sometime in mid-August as a rehearsal of war with the US.

The announcement was made after Trump promised “fire and fury” against Pyongyang if it continued tests aimed at developing nuclear-capable long-range ballistic missiles.

On Friday, Trump came up with another bellicose statement, warning the North on Twitter that “military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely.”
According to Ivashov, North Korea is still capable of inflicting “some damage” on the US, but it will be incomparable to the blow the Americans will deliver.

With the current state of events, it’s is important for the international community to push the crisis towards a diplomatic solution,” he said.

“China and Russia should intervene now. Political and economic pressure should be increased on North Korea, more sanctions introduced. The main thing is to get the situation out of the military perspective,” Ivashov said.

I have already acknowledged that that's a problem. Nevertheless, presenting the proposals I suggested would raise international support for the United States, while putting pressure on Fat Kim.

The Koreans are an intelligent people. I have difficulty believing that the North Korean people do not notice the difference between the rumblings in their underfed stomachs, and Dictator Kim's obvious obesity. I have difficulty believing that they do not know that Koreans have life much better in South Korea.

Fat Kim is riding a hungry tiger who probably thinks Kim's saddle chafes.

Reading through much of this thread ,
I find it amazing that so may think the answer involves others changing their systems ,
to something that looks more like the American model.

Why should NK and or China become Democratic ?

Their system of governance is their business.

Americas efforts to impose something that resembles what they like , or think others should have , have not worked well .

You can not impose your ideals on the rest of the world.
The best you can do , is to cooperate where possible , and hope to influence
    changes as things evolve.

You don't have to agree with what goes on in different places ,
but you can't dictate what and how others run their affairs.

Talking anything about NK or China being or becoming democratic at the moment , is just ridiculous wasted
    hot air.
It may evolve that way in time ,
but it is none of your business.

NK is a major thorn and a danger at the moment , and the number one objective should be to get some resolution to that.
    Nothing else.

China is the power in the region .
China is the only outfit that has good access to NK ,
along with Russia to a lessor degree.

    China is the key.
    Deal with it.

Stop all the bullshit bluff n bluster.
Stop thinking you have all the answers and everything should be done your way.

Stop rarking up the mad lil fat man ,
and go sit down n chat with the people who actually have the power.

Stop thinking they should just do it because you say so.

Your system is not that crash hot.
Your way has not worked to well in so many places.

Try a different tack for a change.
Earn some respect and trust where it is needed ,
with the people who really matter.

So you can flatten North Korea if you want .

    Big deal.
    We're not impressed.

We'll be much more impressed if you behave like responsible world citizens ,
    instead of class bullies.

Of course there are people trying ,
    working behind the scenes .
You just need the dumb fuck at the top to pull his head in n shut the fuck up.

The U.S. effort to defend South Korea during the Korean War did work well.

South Korea and Taiwan have democratic governments. They also have much higher per capita gross domestic products than North Korea and Communist China.

    A coincidence? I think not.

Yes , but they (Taiwan & SK) weren't communist
      outfits.
      That is the whole point.

That is why they have been successful.

It might have been good if we could have had more on that side ,
but in reality , that didn't happen.

Unfortunately , SK could have , if America had understood and accepted what China offered in 1950.
      But that's history

What we have to deal with now ,
is what we have now ,
      not some lost ideal.

      Vietnam is a classic.
We tried to stop communism ,
      and failed miserably.

      The world didn't end.
Vietnam is still communist and the world hasn't come to any harm.

Politics evolve , and communism is evolving , that's just how it is.

      I say again.
We have to deal with the reality as it is now ,
not what we think the ideal is or should have been.
