Spider quiz – can you spot Britain’s most lethal creepy crawlies?

This autumn has seen a plague of eight-legged creepy crawlies growing to terrifying dimensions in Britain’s gardens – but telling which ones to watch out for can be tricky.

Frankly, they all look revolting – even the lovable, harmless ones which save you money on fly spray.

Below are five skittering, long-legged creatures which you might find crawling in your garden this week.

Despite a set of fangs which look like they could take your arm off, this woodlouse spider actually loves families and pets.

5. Steatoda nobilis

While not quite as bad as the black widows they resemble, the false widow spider is often described as Britain’s most venomous. Consider it a servant of the Dark One, and no friend to humankind.
